Women's History Month at MUW

As noted in previous posts, March is Women's History Month.  How is it being celebrated at MUW?

The Center for Women's Research and Public Policy sponsored a Girl Scout History program which allowed them to introduce the new CEO for the Heart of the South Girl Scout Council, Angela Woods.  Ms. Woods is a graduate of  Spelman College (a women's college) who has an MBA and a law degree from the University of Georgia.  Accompanying Ms. Woods was Elizabeth Upchurch, who portrayed Juliette Gordon Low, Girl Scout founder.  MUW alumna, Elizabeth Gwin (class of 1930) planned to speak about her experiences as local Girl Scout executive director, but she was sick (which almost never happens, even if she IS 101 in May). However, a clip was shown of an interview done last summer in which Elizabeth talked about her long experience with Girl Scouting and what it did for her, her daughter, and her grandaughter.

The Center is  also  supporting the MUW international film series, which is focusing on women's experiences in China this month.  That program is Thursday night at five p.m. in Martin Hall. 

Bridget Pieschel is  teaching Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility this month to the Honors Residential Learning second year students, and they are talking about her depiction of courtship and marriage, putting in the context of 19th Century women's history.
