Life Time Achievement
State Senator Giles Ward had the privilege of handing out a special award for the evening as he presented a lifetime achievement award. As Ward noted the award is not given out every year and that some years more than one person may receive the award. This year he presented "a truly most significant award" to 97-year-old Juanita Hight.
Ward noted that Hight had been involved in almost every worthwhile endeavor in the community for a lengthy time span and had covered many roles in the community. He noted her roles as a teacher and successful business person as she and her husband owned and operated the Winston County Journal for many years.
"She is one of MUW['s] most outstanding alums and still one of the most active," said Ward.

Miss Juanita called me tonight, and she is very happy that all of her W alum friends have heard about her award! She told me that she has a ride to Homecoming this year, and is looking forward to seeing other "Golden Girls." One day I hope I am lucky enough to grow up to be like Juanita McCown Hight, MSCW Class of 1934.
