“We are promoting this event to our alums especially. We’d like for them to come back to the department, visit with faculty and old friends, and, of course, buy artwork,” said Dr. Beverly Joyce, faculty sponsor for the Kappa Pi chapter.
The event includes a silent auction of student artwork, from 6:00 to 7:30, followed by a live auction of work by MUW faculty, alumni, and friends of the department. The auctioneer again this year is Mr. Fred Hayley.
Proceeds from the auction benefit the art program at West Point High School. Each year, Kappa Pi selects an area high school as its partner. “By working with these schools, Kappa Pi hopes to leave an impression that will both encourage and foster a love for the arts that will stick with the students long after graduation,” said Amanda Brewer, President of the Kappa Pi chapter. Kappa Pi has raised funds for New Hope, West Lowndes, and Columbus High Schools in the past few years.
In addition to the auction, Kappa Pi is sponsoring a drawing for an original 30 x 42” digital print, Zig Zag Zig 22, by Mr. Tom Nawrocki. Nawrocki has taught printmaking at MUW for nearly 40 years and has shown extensively in both national and international exhibitions. Tickets for the drawing are only $10 and may be purchased from Kappa Pi (Kappa Pi, Mississippi University for Women, 1100 College St. MUW-70, Columbus, MS 39701). Please make checks out to Kappa Pi and reference the drawing on your check. Ticket holders do not have to be present to win but must pick up the print from the department. Kappa Pi is not responsible for shipping artwork.
