The Chattanooga area MFAeA meeting (subtitled “A Taste of Chattanooga”) on Saturday, August 28, 2010 was a great success. Alumnae from several chapters attended the area meeting and greatly enjoyed the luncheon, the company, and the two readings on the program: an in-person reading by Jimmie Meese Moomaw from her memoir Southern Fried Child … in Home Seeker’s Paradise and a recorded reading from Golden Days by Dr. Bridget Smith Pieschel.
Jimmie Moomaw’s reading of Southern Fried Child consisted of pieces of her story as only Jimmie can tell them. Hearing her read her own work aloud added to the flair and mood of her stories that was both Southern, Mississippian, and, well, Jimmie. It was a treat to hear entertaining stories written and read by a very entertaining MUW alum.
Dr. Bridget Pieschel’s satellite reading of Golden Days illustrated her great passion for Southern women and MUW history. The stories from MUW’s Golden Girls came alive as Bridget read them to the group via CD.
Everyone enjoyed the program provided by two MUW alumnae treasures. Our MFAeA president Lillian Wade also attended the meeting and presented important information to the chapter about membership, new student recruiting, and the MFAeA.
